Women's Blues Crowned National Champions to End Unbeaten Season

in

15/03/2012

Cambridge won 9-8

Cambridge Women’s Lacrosse Blues beat Birmingham 10-9 in a dramatic and hotly contested BUCS Championship Final held in Sheffield. This victory sees the Blues end their season unbeaten, having won Varsity, their BUCS league and the Championship. But Birmingham were determined to spoil Cambridge’s party, pushing them right to the wire and forcing them to produce their very best lacrosse to finally steal the victory and break the hearts of their opposition.

Kingfishers success in Oxford

in

Cambridge won 10-5

Cambridge Kingfishers came out fighting and dominated the Oxford defence holding the ball safely to Oxford's frustration. Ellie Jeffreys demonstrated a beautiful fake, confusing the goalie as the ball sailed into the net. 2 others goals went our way before Oxford called a time out to get their acts together. They came back with a vengeance and managed a goal from a fast break before our defence had regrouped. Their raised confidence allowed them another goal before Cambridge got back on track and Check scored a goal from an unexpected postal drive. The half time score of 5-3

Cambridge won 15-9

A rivalry going back nearly 800 years, both teams unbeaten this season, 2 shades of blue and only one winner possible. Quite a formidable set up for the Cambridge v. Oxford game this Wednesday played on Queens pitches in Cambridge.

The match started slowly for Cambridge with the dark blues keeping possession of the ball for longer than was comfortable. A good set up from Georgie Hurt led to the first score of the day from cambridge co-captain Laura Plant, however Oxford quickly retaliated and for a while the scores

Kingfishers hold nerve to beat Oxford Brookes

in

10/11/2010

Cambridge won 10-9

This week the women's seconds faced Oxford Brookes at home, a warm up for
the real Oxford next week...

With Brookes scoring the first goal it looked set to be a closer match than
the lacrosse girls are currently used to. However, they showed that they
were definitely in the game with a quick return goal from Pithers' left
handed drive on goal, streaking through the startled Brookes defence. A few
paniced passes in attack led to some unnecessary turnovers for Brookes,
however they failed to take advantage. Punished for this, Amelia Duncanson

Women Triumph Over Exeter

10/11/2010

Cambridge won 15-6

This wednesday the lacrosse girls found themselves in Devon to take on the strong Exeter University 1st team. This was the first real challenge the Blues had come up against this season and they rose to it, beating down the fiesty, fake-tanned, peroxide blonde Exeter players 15-6.

Women Sink Bath

Cambridge won 20-3

Yesterday, the Blues team braved the 120 mile minibus journey to Bath
to take on their women's firsts in the BUCS premiership league.
Determined not to have wasted such a long journey the team dominated
the score card and notched up a total of 20 goals to Bath's 3. After a
manic first half which saw many-a wild check (tackle) from the Bath
side go shadily undetected by the referees, the Cambridge Blue's were
leading 9-2 but this was not reflective on the amount of possession
the Blues were maintaining. A focussed team talk from current co-

Narrow Loss for Kingfishers

in

27/10/2010

Cambridge won 9-7

The Kingfishers came up against some tough opposition playing Nottingham
Firsts. They scored straight from the first draw before we had settled into
the match. Their second goal came after some carefully worked attacking
play. After a tactical discussion in a time out we upped our game to bring
the score line to 4-4 at the end of the first half. Now on a level playing
field again we held our own to a score of 5-5. They snuck in a cheeky goal
from a fast break to get ahead before settling into a game of possession.

Kingfishers dominate Loughborough 2nds

in

20/10/2010

Cambridge won 23-2

The Kingfishers continued their promising start to the season with a massive 23-2 victory against Loughborough. Our team showed an impressive defence despite the goalie being new to the game. Strong defensive movement combined with great body marking gave them very few shots on goal. There was some dynamic attacking with some creative goals secured by Ellie Jeffreys and Georgie Prichard, against a team we've previously been equally matched to. A brilliant team spirit kept the focus into the second half where our defence faced the sun and Loughborough came back with a vengeance.
